The Office Depot Foundation is grateful to be recognized for its contributions to the community, its commitment to community investment and its achievements in communications and public relations.

2017 Awards and Recognition

  • Office Depot Foundation President Mary Wong was named as one of America’s Top 20 Women in Philanthropy, Social Innovation & Civic Engagement by Philanthropy Media and Michael Chatman, founder of #WHYiGIVE on Twitter.
  • Mary Wong will be the Inaugural Raise the Bar Leadership Awardee in the category of Corporate Philanthropy from the Women’s Foundation of Palm Beach County in March 2017.
  • Mary Wong received a “Heart of a Woman” Award from Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA) in February.
  • Mary Wong was named “January Outstanding Communicator of the Month” by the Association for Women in Communications South Florida Chapter.
  • The Office Depot Foundation 2016 Annual Report to the Community received a Gold Award in the Non-Profits Category of the 2015-16 Vision Awards Annual Reports Competition sponsored by the League of American Communications Professionals. The report was ranked #36 on the list of Top 100 reports worldwide and received a special award as the Best Agency Report.

2016 Recognition

  • The Office Depot Foundation received the first-ever Corporate Path Award from the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work at Florida International University. The award recognizes the Foundation for its contributions to public health and welfare of citizens of South Florida.
  • In December, Office Depot Foundation President Mary Wong was honored as a “Community Giant” by the Inner City Youth Golfers organization.
  • In November, Mary Wong was honored with the Champion of Epilepsy Award by the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida at its Purple Hat Luncheon event.
  • In September, Mary Wong received an International Women’s Leadership Award from the Suits, Stilettos and Lipstick Foundation in Fort Lauderdale.
  • Mary Wong was honored by AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse) during its ninth annual “Heart of a Woman” Luncheon in January. AVDA celebrated its 30th (Pearl) anniversary this year.  To commemorate the anniversary, it presented a special event titled “30 Years – 30 Faces – The Survivors, The Champions and Those Who Serve and Protect!” at the Boca Raton Resort & Club.  Mary was chosen as one of the 30 “Champions.”
  • The Office Depot Foundation 2014 Annual Report to the Community received a Gold Award in the Non-Profits Category of the 2014-15 Vision Awards Annual Reports Competition sponsored by the League of American Communications Professionals. The report was ranked #30 on the list of Top 50 reports worldwide and received a special award as the Most Engaging Report.
  • The Office Depot Foundation 2014 Annual Report to the Community was named a finalist in two categories by PR News for its CSR Awards and NonProfit PR Awards. The winners were announced on March 15 at the National Press Club in Washington.
    • The Foundation received an Honorable Mention for the CSR Awards in the Annual Reports category.
    • The Foundation received an Honorable Mention for the Nonprofit PR Awards in the Publications category.
  • Mary Wong was named by Michael Chatman of Philanthropy Media to the list of “Top 20 Women in Philanthropy, Social Innovation & Civic Engagement” as well as the list of “America’s Top 25 Philanthropy Executive Brands.” Chatman, who founded the #WHYIGIVE movement on Twitter, has more than 300,000 followers.

2015 and Earlier

  • The Office Depot Foundation 2014 Annual Report to the Community was named a finalist in two categories by PR News for its CSR Awards and NonProfit PR Awards. The Foundation received Honorable Mention recognition in both categories.
    • The Foundation was a CSR Awards finalist in the Annual Reports category.
    • The Foundation was a Nonprofit PR Awards finalist in the Publications category.

  • Office Depot Foundation President Mary Wong was honored by South Palm Beach SCORE with its 2015 Entrepreneur of the Year Award. SCORE’s Chairman Hal Finkelstein said, “Mary works tirelessly through the Office Depot Foundation to assist others in need, particularly children. She is an inspiration to all who know her, to the community to which she so selflessly devotes her time and energy, and to all of us at SCORE, who are honored to recognize her for all her devotion and efforts, which reverberate throughout all aspects of our community.”
  • The 2014 Office Depot Foundation Annual Report to the Community received “Honorable Mention” recognition in two categories in the 2015 PR News Platinum PR Awards competition – Annual Reports and External Publications. It was among approximately a dozen reports honored in each category.
  • Mary Wong received an award for successful leadership and entrepreneurship during “Ecosystem of Support for Women Entrepreneurs,” the fourth annual Women Entrepreneurs Network Summit presented by Palm Beach State College.
  • Office Depot Foundation President Mary Wong was honored by Food For The Poor as its Ambassador for the Poor as part of its 20th Annual Building Hope Gala.
  • PR News inducted the Office Depot Foundation National Backpack Program into the CSR Hall of Fame during the CSR Awards luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. PR News noted that “the CSR Hall of Fame celebrates organizations that have not just made an impact over the past several years but have launched model CSR programs that will be referred to for years to come. These are brands that are also noted for their history of CSR communications success.”
  • Mary Wong was honored during a Back to School Breakfast hosted by the American Association of Caregiving Youth (AACY) during the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce’s Boca Festival Days activities in August.
  • Office Depot and the Office Depot Foundation were honored by the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce with its 2014 Business of the Year Award.
  • The Office Depot Foundation’s “Be The Difference. Speak Up Against Bullying!” Program was named the winner in the Social Responsibility category of the 2014 PR News Nonprofit PR Awards and also in the Community Affairs category of the 2014 PR News CSR Awards Competition.
  • Our communications campaign for the 2013 National Backpack Program was recognized by the League of American Communications Professionals’ Magellan Awards competition with the Platinum award overall in the Community Relations category and a special award for best return on investment.
  • The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center recognized that Office Depot as one of four finalists for the 2013 Best Corporate Steward Award.  As a finalist, Office Depot was featured in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s 2013 Corporate Citizenship Awards awareness campaign in the weeks leading up to the 14th annual awards gala, which took place on November 21 in Washington, D.C.  The other three finalists were Capital One Financial Corporation, UPS, and Tata Consultancy Services. UPS was recipient of the Best Corporate Steward Award.
  • The Office Depot Foundation is acknowledged by GuideStar USA as a “GuideStar Exchange Gold Participant” recipient.  The GuideStar Exchange Seal is awarded to nonprofit organizations that meet exceptionally high standards for accountability and transparency.  The GuideStar Exchange Seal is displayed prominently on the Office Depot Foundation website.
  • The Foundation’s 2012 Report to the Community, Connecting the Dots, received multiple awards in the League of American Communications Professionals 2012 Vision Awards Annual Report Competition. These included:

      • Platinum Award Overall (top award) in the Nonprofits category (ranking higher than Montefiore Medical Center and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center)

  • The Office Depot Foundation was recognized as the Best Company-Related Foundation Program in the 2012 Impact Awards Strategic Communications Competition sponsored by the League of American Communications Professionals.  This is the consecutive year that the Foundation has received this honor.
  • The Office Depot Foundation 2011 Report to the Community was recognized with an Honorable Mention in the Annual Report Category of the 2012 PRNews CSR Awards.
  • The Office Depot Foundation 2011 Report to the Community was recognized with an Honorable Mention in the External Publications Category of the PRNews 2012 Nonprofit PR Awards competition.  In addition, the Foundation’s Director of Communications, Leon Rubin, received Honorable Mention recognition in the Nonprofit Communicator of the Year Award competition.
